New, improved LCBP Phase 2
21st May 2009

The current programme has been extended from July 09 to April 2011 with an additional £35m of funding.

Significantly, applications can now be made directly through South Facing without involving the framework suppliers as previously.
This streamlined system speeds up the application and claims process, and reduces costs by ending commision payments to the framework suppliers.

LCBP Phase2 provides PV solutions for charitable organisations, community groups and the public sector. Applications can be made up to 50% of the cost on installations of up to £200,000 in price.

Feed-in Tariff for the UK in 2010
A feed in tariff for the UK has been confirmed. It is expected that this will apply for PV systems of up to 5MW. View our Feed In Tariff FAQ here.

A Feed-in tariff (FIT) is typically a 20 year government backed contract offering a tariff for electricity generated by PV that is up to 6 times greater than the cost of grid electricity. This fast payback scheme incentivises the speedy development of renewable electricity and is paid for by a small levy on every kWh.

The feed-in tariff was first introduced in Germany and has become so successful that it has been taken up in more than 50 countries worldwide such as Spain, Greece, South Korea, Japan, USA, France, and Italy.

Brighton School PV saves tonnes and tonnes
Mile Oak School is benefiting from over        8,000kWh of free electricity a year direct from it's 9kWp roof mounted PV array - installed by South Facing in June 08.

Its sunny coastal location will help uplift performance, reduce the school's carbon footprint and save the school around £1,000 per year on its electricity bill.

'As electricity becomes more expensive this investment looks better and better,' said Neil Fulcher, the school's Eco Coordinator and driving force behind the project.

Neil secured both a Low Carbon Building Programme grant and match funding from EDF. This cost the school nothing.

The children can monitor the system output - thanks to a display in the reception - and learn about the power of the sun/sustainability all at once.

Reasons to see red over green energy
Government apathy sabotages Britain's shift to a low-carbon economy.

You'd hope, wouldn't you, that the government department responsible for energy to heat our homes, power our cars, and so on, would be on top of two key issues: a switch to a low-carbon economy and the possibility that oil might run out sooner than we thought.
